Sunday Sauce

Colleen Ferreira

Every Italian family has their own version of Sunday Sauce. It’s an end of weekend staple in many homes with rich roots in Italy. Our recipe simplifies the day-long process and dare we say it would stand up to Grandma’s sauce in a blind taste test!

Ingredients

Ingredients

1 lb pork shoulder, roughly chopped into 1-inch cubes

1 lb ground spicy pork Italian sausage

1 lb sweet pork sausage meatballs

3 cups marinara sauce

2 cups crushed tomatoes

1 to 2 cups red wine

2 tbsp dried Italian seasoning

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 white onion, quartered

2 large carrots, skinned and cut in half

Directions

Place all ingredients into a crockpot. Gently stir to ensure everything is combined. Cover and cook on low for 10 to 12 hours. Sauce is ready when the pork shoulder easily shreds apart with a fork. Remove carrots and onions before serving or roughly chop them and stir back into the sauce. Serve over pasta, we recommend rigatoni. Top with fresh parmesan cheese.
